Parents, You Have Humbled Us

Events like AVN absolutely humble us. Not the porn stars or extravagant events…but the couples attending the events. Specifically the couples who are parents and hold down regular jobs back at home.
Awe inspiring. Seriously. And very, very humbling.
To see people who work all day, come home to take care of kids every night, wake up early to take care of kids and then head off to work to repeat the cycle is impressively exhausting to those of us without children. To then see these people party our asses off is absolutely stunning. You’d think they’d want to find a quiet corner and curl up in a catatonic state. Instead they start drinking early, then dance and party until after dawn; partying like rock stars and fucking like porn stars. We can’t keep up, no matter how hard we try, and have raised the white flag at house parties, at resorts like Desire and Hedo, and at multi-day events like Bliss Fusion and PurrfectLV Intrigue. They just keep going, and going, and going long after we’re gone.
We are without kids. We sleep when we want, as much as we want. We have quiet mornings and easy nights. And we are blown away time and time again. You parents are freaking amazing.
Every year we walk the show floor at the Adult Entertainment Expo at the Sands Convention Center. This year it was way off in terms of both attendance and exhibitors. So why exactly would we, as swingers, bother to attend the AEE? Well, technically we are in the adult industry, even if we are not pornographers, but it’s a good place to meet people with adult and clothing-optional travel agencies, and who manufacture vibrators and other sex toys which we can use in our play tests. Plus of course we look for partnerships that make sense; those adult businesses that are interesting to the swinger community.
One neat moment was when we got Larry Flynt to sign an autograph. We admire him for so many reasons, as an entreprenuer with amazing gut instincts, and as a true fighter for civil liberties.
And, frankly, we also love AVN because it’s a hell of a party. Not the porn star parties (quite boring, actually); I’m talking about all the swinger parties that are hosted by Bliss (at Planet Hollywood) and PurrfectLV (at Mandalay Bay and THE Hotel). Hundreds of hot, young couples drinking, dancing and partying, none of whom have the slightest interest in AEE or AVN and are simply there to cut loose and have some fun.
And what about the Adult Video Awards themselves? Absolutely no idea, we’ve never been to them. Maybe someday kasidie.com will produce some porn for couples, and then we might go if nominated for an AVN award, but otherwise it really isn’t our place of business.
